Anchor

A poem, based on 2 Chronicles 16:9, "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him."

Your eyes are upon us,
    Your hand upon our backs,
Your loving gaze never ceases,
    Your strong support ne’er lacks.

Peace that endureth,
    Love that never fails
Shall be ours forever,
    The wind beneath our sails.

Storms we shall encounter,
    Some with gales of mighty force,
But you will e’er be with us
    To stay us on our course.

Rejoicing, thanks and praise,
    Our companions and our guides,
As we journey in your love -
    So far, and deep, and wide.

This one unchanging truth
    The anchor to our souls -
Your love will save and heal us
    Until the day we’re whole.

And though we do not seek them,
    Temptations and trials shall come,
The battles will be daily
    But the war, already won.

Our Jesus, our Messiah
    The Victor over all,
Will forever keep us
    Until the day our Father calls.

And we will then come running,
    Your bride, to your embrace,
Where we shall dwell with you forever
    And see you face to face.
